Grout sits slightly below the tile surface and is porous, so a mop glides over it and leaves dirty water in the lines. Over time that water dries and leaves a layer of grime. Cleaning grout properly means working into the lines with a brush and a suitable cleaner, then rinsing the loosened dirt away.
Steam loosens surface grime and soap scum, but on its own it rarely lifts ground-in dirt from grout. The best results come from a cleaner matched to the tile, scrubbing the grout lines and a thorough rinse. On natural stone, heat and harsh products can do damage, so we check the surface first.

Rinse your mop often and change the water, because a dirty mop just moves dirt into the grout. Squeegee the shower after use, run the exhaust fan and wipe up spills quickly. On natural stone, use a pH-neutral cleaner, never vinegar or bleach.
