Most everyday stains lift or fade a lot with the right pre-treatment. Some can't be removed, because the colour of the fibre itself has changed. We'll tell you which is which before we start.
Spilt something? Blot it with a clean white cloth, don't rub. A little cold water is fine, but avoid hot water and strong household products, which can set a stain or bleach the colour.

Pick up toys, shoes and anything on the floor, and move small furniture and breakables. You don't need to vacuum first, because we do. Point out any stains you're worried about and let us know if the carpet is wool, so we can plan for it. Keep pets and kids out of the rooms until the carpet is dry.
Vacuum high-traffic areas at least weekly, put a doormat at each entrance and take shoes off at the door if you can. Blot spills straight away with a clean white cloth rather than rubbing. A runner in the hallway and a mat under desk chairs protect the busiest spots.
