About the area
Footscray is one of the west's busiest centres, with the busiest train station outside the CBD, Footscray Market and a Western Health hospital. Sunshine, once home to the H.V. McKay Sunshine Harvester Works, is still one of Melbourne's main places of employment outside the CBD, with many industrial companies and a major train and bus interchange.
Williamstown adds Victorian-era buildings, Nelson Place's waterfront dining and a long shipbuilding history, while Werribee, the administrative centre of the City of Wyndham, has grown quickly since the 1990s. At the 2021 Census the median rent was $330 a week in Werribee and $450 in Williamstown.
Getting around
Footscray and Sunshine are the west's big transport hubs: Sunshine has Metro and V/Line trains and a bus interchange, Williamstown has three stations on its own line, and Werribee station is the end of the Werribee line, with the Princes Freeway bypassing the town.
